A family garden redesigned to maximise enjoyment of its riverside setting whilst offering a calming sanctuary from everyday life.
The design segments the garden into a series of broad stepped terraces leading down to the river. It balances the need to open out the garden to optimise the river view while attempting to create a sense of refuge and privacy. A number of different seating areas offer space for entertaining as well as areas of sanctuary for relaxation.
Planting will make use of herbaceous perennials and grasses to create a soft and welcoming feel which will reflect the movement of the river and sun through the garden. Focal points are provided by a number of trees.
The raised bed will bring the garden much nearer the house, nestling the new extension into its surroundings.
